Permission Granted: How To Break Free From Old Identities & Rise

There comes a moment—subtle or seismic—when you realize:

You’re no longer who you used to be… but not yet who you’re becoming.

That liminal space between identities can feel disorienting, lonely, even terrifying. But it’s also where the magic lives. It’s where the version of you that’s aligned with your highest truth begins to rise.

In this post, I want to speak to that version of you.

The one that knows it’s time to shed the old skin, rewrite the narrative, and say yes to a life that actually feels like yours.

🔥 Why We Get Stuck in Old Identities

We wear identities like armor.

They help us feel safe. Validated. Belonging.

But over time, the identities we formed—“the achiever,” “the caretaker,” “the good girl,” “the one who always has it together”—start to suffocate us.

They were formed to help us survive.

Now, they’re keeping us from fully living.

So why is it so hard to let go?

  • Fear of the unknown
  • Fear of judgment from people who “knew us before”
  • Fear of failure if we claim a new version of ourselves and stumble

But here’s the truth:

Your next level of joy, freedom, and impact won’t come from clinging to who you’ve been. It comes from who you’re becoming.

🧬 What It Actually Means To Rise

To rise isn’t just about doing more.

It’s about coming home to yourself.

It’s about choosing alignment over approval.

Soul over strategy.

Truth over safety.

And it’s also deeply practical.

When we rise, we:

✅ Say no to what’s draining us

✅ Speak from our soul, not our wounds

✅ Create with intention and clarity

✅ Lead from a place of integrity and love

✅ Become magnetic to the people, partners, and purpose that match our frequency

✨ How To Break Free From Old Identities

Here are 4 practices I use with my clients (and myself) when stepping into a new version of self:

1. Name the Role You’re Ready to Release

Ask yourself:

What role or identity have I outgrown?

Be honest. Get specific. Write it down.

“I’m ready to release the version of me that over-functions for everyone else at the expense of my own needs.”

2.  Bless the Old Version

Instead of shaming her, thank her.

She kept you safe. She helped you belong. She got you here.

Now, she can rest.

Create a ritual—light a candle, journal a letter of release, speak words of gratitude aloud.

It’s more powerful than you might think.

3.  Declare the New Standard

Who are you becoming? What’s now true for you?

Write it in the present tense:

“I am a powerful, expressed woman who leads from her heart and walks in truth.”

Speak it daily. Live it fully.

4.  Surround Yourself With Expansion

You cannot rise in isolation.

Whether it’s a coach, sisterhood, or sacred space—surround yourself with others committed to their becoming. You’ll rise faster, braver, and with more joy.

🌹 This Is Your Permission Slip

If you’ve been waiting for a sign…

To step out of the role you’ve outgrown

To stop shrinking for the comfort of others

To claim your voice, your vision, your truth

Here it is.

You don’t need anyone else to validate it.

But if you’ve been looking for someone to say:

“Yes. You’re allowed to evolve. You’re allowed to rise.”

This is me saying it.
